CNC CAM Programmer


Our Medical Device client is growing and, that’s right, they are still hiring! CNC machining at the beginning of the millennium was nearly a dying artform but it has been revived and is in higher demand than ever. If you have expertise in CAM programming, and you have hands-on experience running the machines; yours is the skill-set we’re looking for. Your experience in Medical Device or some other regulated environment will be extremely valuable as your understanding of how, when, and why the documentation is important will be foundational to your success. Your ability to effectively interact with Engineering and Quality groups will be equally important, understanding the importance of the Router, Tool Wear, Process Engineering, and Data Collection are critical.



  • Works with engineering and the shop floor to create and/or modify CNC machine programs
  • Runs simulations and or actual machine tests to confirm expected outcomes
  • Reviews 3-D CAD models and provides feedback to engineering on machineability and tolerances
  • Draws on experience to identify proper holding fixtures for the machined product, proper tooling for cutting tools, proper cutting tool materials as well as their expected wear characteristics
  • Works closely with machine operators to ensure efficacy of the programs, achievement of blueprint requirements, and safety; as well as monitoring dimensional outcomes, troubleshooting, and making adjustments while adhering to the QMS
  • Creates Operator Work Instructions, provides documented Set-up guidelines, and In-Process inspection documentation; provides shop floor assistance as needed
  • Closely monitors and documents any and all changes to the program whether at the machine or on the CAM system
  • Regularly applies a strong understanding of GD&T
  • Actively participates in Continuous Improvement projects and provides guidance on CI opportunities

What background you need to have:

  1. HS or GED level education with the minimum years’ experience shown below; AS or BS in a technical discipline preferred
  2. 5 years CNC CAM systems’ experience programming Swiss Style, Milling and EDM
  3. 3 years, hands-on, programming 5 axis mills equipped with Fanuc and/or Haas CNC
  4. 5 years set-up and operating experience on a variety of CNC machines, including G-Code and/or Macro-B programming
  5. Demonstrable familiarity machining Stainless and/or Medical Grade Ti
  6. Working knowledge of SolidWorks
  7. Demonstrable skills reading complex drawings and understanding/implementing GD&T
  8. Strong math skills
  9. Must have very good problem-solving skills and a strong orientation to detail
  10. Working knowledge of how to apply these skills in a regulated, Quality Systems driven environment, e.g. ISO 9001, 13485, AS9100, ISO/TS 16949
